Discarded needles and syringes
Discarded hypodermic needles and syringes are extremely dangerous and could cause injury or infection. If you find a needle or syringe then report it to us immediately.
Report discarded needles or syringes immediately, our staff are trained to safely remove and dispose of them. Don't put yourself or others at risk:
- Don't handle the needle or syringe with your bare hands
- Keep the needle or syringe out of reach of children
- Don't put needles or syringe in a bin or down a drain/toilet
Immediately contact your doctor or nearest Accident and Emergency department for medical advice and treatment if you do suffer an injury from a needle or syringe.

You'll need to provide:
- your contact details
- the location of the needle or syringe
All reports of discarded needles are treated as urgent. If we can't uplift the syringe on the day the complaint is made then we'll give you advice on how to make it safe until it can be collected on the next working day.
Needles and syringes on private land
It is up to the occupier or owner to lift and dispose of discarded needles and syringes on private ground. We can arrange for the uplift and disposal of needles or syringes found on private land if requested.
If we can't uplift the syringe on the day the complaint is made then we'll give you advice on how to make it safe until it can be collected on the next working day.
