Litter
Our Community Safety Team can issue fixed penalty notices of £80 to anyone dropping litter.
Litter is unsightly, unpleasant and damaging for the environment. It can take years to decompose - a banana skin can take 2 years and a carrier bag 10 years.
Litter is also dangerous to people and animals. For example, broken glass causes injury and plastic can choke and suffocate.

How we can help
Our officers patrol towns and villages to monitor littering and issue fixed penalty notices if required. The team provides education and advice in communities too.
We also provide bins in public places to deter people from dropping litter.
Other issues
The illegal dumping of large amounts of rubbish or waste on land not meant for that purpose is known as fly tipping.
