It has been announced by Buckingham Palace that Her Majesty The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
The Convener and Deputy Convener of Dumfries and Galloway Council, Councillor Stephen Thompson and Councillor Linda Dorward, have expressed their deepest sympathies to The Royal Family:
"On behalf of Dumfries and Galloway Council and all the communities across our region, we join the nation in mourning for Her Majesty The Queen. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all members of The Royal Family and honour her long service and duty to her country as Queen."
As a mark of respect, flags will fly at half-mast on all Council buildings and flagpoles as appropriate.
Books of Condolence will be available at Council facilities across the region. An online Book of Condolence is to be available on The Royal website at www.Royal.gov.uk.
In addition, floral tributes can be laid at War Memorials which have been designated as Gardens of Remembrance .
In line with national guidance, the Council will be closed on the National Day of Mourning, the day of Her Majesty's funeral; Citizenship Ceremonies will be postponed; and we will be cancelling or postponing all non-essential meetings of DGC business and events until after the funeral. Details will be available on the Council website and through social media.
