Social Work Services Committee meeting on 20 June 2013
Thursday, 13 June 2013 16:05
Social Work Services Committee will meet on 20 June with an agenda that will help to determine its way forward.
Councillors will discuss a variety of topics including:-
• Social Work Services’ performance over the past year
• The financial recovery plan
• An update on The Way Forward plan
• An updated business for 2012 to 2015
Chair of Social Work Services, Councillor Andy Ferguson said, “I am upbeat about the future of our Social Work Services. This is about making sure that Social Work is properly resourced at a time when our population is ageing. This suite of reports will provide Members with the information they need to take decisions about providing the right resources in the right place at the right time. This is difficult when fewer resources are available, but we have to be realistic about the level of need in our region and accept some things are out of our control.
“There has always been a high level of service from our front line staff and they need to be supported by resources and robust information. Work is already underway to improve the business and financial management arrangements with Council wide and external assistance.
“Some of the changes that come out of our systems review may be radical and our services may need to be re-designed. These major changes include the integration of health and social care. More of the same will not address the current pressures. Progress will need the co-operation of everyone with an interest in the outcome and that includes social workers, people who use our services and carers.
“I believe we may have to invest up front in some of these radical changes in order to benefit from improvements in the long term. As always, I am looking forward to a stimulating debate with members who I am certain will have their own original and practical ideas to help us make rapid progress.”
