Wednesday, 12 June 2013 15:47
Talented athletes from the region represented Dumfries and Galloway at the Scottish Disability Sport (SDS) National Junior Athletics Championships on Wednesday 5 June at Grangemouth Stadium.
The team was pulled together by Dumfries and Galloway Disability Sport in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council's Leisure and Sport team.
Six athletes from our region took part in the competition and came home with an excellent total of 10 medals – 5 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze.
All six members of the team achieved medals which was a fantastic result given that this was the first time any of them had competed at national level.
Jessica Lamont from Maxwelltown High School achieved 2 golds in the 100 metres and the softball throw; Hayden Keir from Annan Academy took gold in the standing long jump and bronze in the softball; Connor Cruikshank from Annan Academy gold in the 200 metres and bronze in the standing long jump; Dylan Park from Annan Academy won gold in the 60 metres; Connor McKinlay from Annan Academy achieved 2 bronze medals in the 60 metres and softball and Kris Grieve-Johnstone from Annan Academy achieved silver in the softball.
