Annandale and Eskdale Summer Sports Academy programme launches
Tuesday, 28 May 2013 12:31
Our Council's Annandale and Eskdale Sports Academy has launched one of its biggest summer sports academy programmes in the run up to Glasgow 2014. The Academy is celebrating its 10th year. Sponsored by EnergySolutions and funded by Annandale and Eskdale Area Committee, a wide range of sports are on offer along with some fantastic value for money trips to sporting facilities of the highest standard.

A highlight of the summer will be the popular Startrack athletics coaching initiative at the Everholm Sports Complex in Annan which includes four days of quality coaching. Olympic Champion Jessica Ennis started her career through the programme and children will receive an extensive Star Track Kit Bag. There are three and four day sports camps across various locations in a number of sports including tennis, football, gymnastics and trampolining. Other activities planned throughout July and August include cricket, fishing, hockey, and golf at Lochmaben, Lockerbie and Langholm Golf Clubs.

There will be physical activity sessions and challenges at Lockerbie and Annan Fire Stations and Annan Youth Cycle Club will be delivering coaching sessions across the area where children can take part in time trials and develop their cycling skills.

The Sports Academy is also offering supervised trips to top sporting venues including horse riding, canoeing, sailing, kayaking and a day of tennis coaching and competitions at Chatsworth Tennis Academy in Carlisle. Finally, the Sports Academy will travel to the Colin Montgomerie Golf Academy at Turnberry where children will get elite coaching and a chance to play on the famous nine hole short course.

The Active Start programme for under 5s includes Mini-Kickers, Tennis Tots, Mini Gym and Commonwealth Kids where the under 5s get the chance to try out the Everholm Running Track in Annan. It will also see the return of the very popular Balance Bikes, Tots Movie Moves, Fun Fencing, Little Outlaws (archery).

Or Council is are very fortunate to have created a strong partnership with Energy Solutions and this has enabled us to organise some high profile sporting activities and make access to these opportunities available at affordable prices.

Any child requiring further information or a booking form for the Summer Sports Academy should contact Annan Customer Service Centre on 030 33 33 3000, e-mail AESportsAcademy@dumgal.gov.uk or call into local government offices or council sports facilities.
