Curling championships: volunteer info day
Thursday, 02 May 2013 10:56

The organising committee for the 2014 World Mixed Doubles and World Senior Curling Championships is hosting a volunteer open day at Dumfries Ice Bowl on the Saturday 11 May 2013, at 11am.

The committee invites any potential volunteers who feel they can make a contribution to the staging of the event in April 2014.

Hosting the 2014 World Mixed Doubles and World Senior Curling Championships will see Dumfries & Galloway hold the biggest sporting event to be seen in our region and provide a showcase of the region for all of the competing nations from around the world.

David Owen, committee vice chairman, said “This is a fantastic opportunity for local people to be involved in a world championship event. There is a whole range of roles that need to be filled both before and during the event. As a curler it will be a great week to be involved with.”

The open day will provide opportunities for volunteers to sign up to become part of the team to deliver the event in a wide range of roles, such as player liaison, transportation, statistics recording, and ice preparation.

Stuart Biggar, chairman of the organising committee, said, “This is the biggest curling event to be staged in Dumfries & Galloway and the first Curling World Championship event to be staged in Scotland for some years.  The success of the London Olympics will be remembered for the contribution the volunteers gave to the event and the delivery of a successful games.  The organising committee is looking for anyone who feels they can contribute, no matter how small a role, to the delivery of the biggest sporting event to be staged in the region.”

The event will be at Dumfries Ice Bowl, starting on 22 April 2014, with 8 days of competition.  If you feel you can add something special to the event, come along to Dumfries Ice Bowl on Saturday 11 May at 11am. Registration can be done in advance by email: info@dumfriescurling.co.uk
