Inspiring Entrepreneur wins iPad
Monday, 29 April 2013 09:34
At the recent Inspiring Entrepreneurs event at DG One in Dumfries, up and coming entrepreneur Mandy Kelly beat the competition to win an iPad.
Mandy and friend Joshua Johnson set up fashion design business ‘Insanity Is My Vanity’ in 2010, while still at school in Moffat. They now produce screen printed t-shirts and sweatshirts with their own unique designs. The business has grown considerably and they now send their t-shirts all over the world.
They recently attended the first Inspiring Entrepreneurs event at DG One in Dumfries, organised by Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Young Entrepreneur Project in partnership with Youth Business Scotland and D and G Chamber of Commerce. The event gave aspiring entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn from local experts on a range of business related topics. One of the highlights of the night was an opportunity to win an iPad – which Mandy was delighted to learn that she had won.
“We really enjoyed the opportunity to network with business people who gave us some excellent advice and were very encouraging about our business. We also learned how to use social media more effectively to promote our business. At the end of the evening I was amazed to hear my name called out as the winner of an iPad which will really help me manage our website and run our online shop”
Dumfries and Galloway Council is one of the first local authorities in Scotland to deliver a project in partnership with the Prince’s Trust Youth Business Scotland targeted at supporting young people who want to take advantage of the opportunities offered by self employment.
Alistair Speedie, Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Director of Planning and Environment opened the event:
“We have a fantastic entrepreneurial spirit among young people in the region and it was great to see so many of them taking advantage of the opportunity to meet each other and learn from local business experts. The event was a great success, and we intend to build on that success to run further events for young entrepreneurs across the region. It’s an excellent opportunity for young people to get together, share ideas and network with experienced business people who’ve been through the good and bad times of business and are happy to share their experiences.”
