Following major scour damage from the adjacent watercourse, the A708 Moffat to Selkirk Road will open today at 4pm.
Chair of DGFirst Management Committee, Councillor Patsy Gilroy, said, "I am impressed with the energy and efficiency of our Council's Roads Service. This was a major road slippage on a part of the A708 that is challenging to work on due to its proximity to the adjacent watercourse and its remote location. Heavy machinery was on site within 48 hours and work continued despite rising water levels and over last weekend in order to open the road quickly for local motorists and businesses. We monitor this route regularly and have ear-marked funds to spend on it over the next year. Congratulations to all those who worked hard to secure this important link between Dumfries and Galloway and Scottish Borders."
The remedial work included importing large rocks to construct bank protection works to prevent any recurrence of this event and considerable amount of material was also imported as infill to replace the washed out section.
