Council officer 'doorsteps' Cabinet Minister with offer of Border Tablet
Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:35
The CX Project recently attended an International Nuclear Supply Chain event in Manchester, hosted by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority Over 1,300 delegates attended the event, many from overseas. The CX Project, which is celebrating its second anniversary, is a joint five year project between the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Dumfries and Galloway Council and managed by Magnox, the operators of the Chapelcross site. The project provides support to local businesses, staff at Chapelcross, young entrepreneurs and the delivery of strategic projects from the Gretna, Lockerbie and Annan Master Plans. The key note speaker at the Supply Chain Event was Baroness Verma, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change. During a walk about in the exhibition hall, Baroness Verma took the opportunity to visit the CX Project stand. CX Project Business Adviser, Bev Bamford, said, "Baroness Verma seemed intrigued by what we had on the display and interrupted her chat on the neighbouring stand to come across and sample the Border Tablet. Border Tablet is produced in Langholm by a business whose expansion has been supported by the CX Project through a grant." The CX Project was there to promote its work and opportunities in Annandale and Eskdale. The stand featured projects covering business growth, regeneration and inward investment. It also featured a video that highlighted businesses the project has worked with, such as Annan Travel, APD, Annandale Distillery, Annandale TV and Creatomatic. Councillor Ronnie Ogilvie is Chair of the Chapelcross Site Stakeholder Group. He said, “The end of the second year of operation of the CX Project is an important milestone and I am pleased that the NDA gave the project the opportunity to take part in what is a very high profile event. The CX Project has achieved a great deal in a relatively short space of time in terms of assistance to businesses and support to Chapelcross staff and young people interested in starting their own businesses. Also we will soon see regeneration projects from the Master plans being delivered on the ground. These are really important foundations upon which to build on over the next three years.” Bill Hamilton, Head of Stakeholder Relations NDA, said, “ The NDA invited the CX Project to attend this high profile event and we were delighted about how well the project was received. There was considerable interest in what is happening in Annandale and Eskdale. In addition, the CX Project made some very important contacts including Commercial Attaches from British Embassies overseas who were looking for businesses to take up new opportunities. These have been passed on to companies in Annandale and Eskdale.” Don Taylor, Baroness Verma and Bev Bamford on CX stand in Manchester
