Easter Youth Work Programme for Stewartry
Friday, 31 March 2023 16:08

A new programme of youth work activities during Easter school holidays has been released for Stewartry area, focussing on groups based in Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie and Kirkcudbright.

Featuring a wide range of targeted and universal provision, the groups aim to improve confidence and self-esteem of young people, encourage social and emotional development and address wellbeing issues including mental health. The programme includes a variety of learning opportunities including a music project, sports leadership training and transitions workshops for both p7’s and school leavers – there are also youth cafes in each locality as well as training for young volunteers.

As always, youth workers are available at every session to provide support and information to young people and are keen to hear about local needs in our communities.

Councillor Ian Blake, Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Communities Committee said: “It’s great to see a wide range of free activities on offer during the school holidays, providing young people with opportunities to take a break from their studies, spend time with their peers and have fun!”

Vice-Chair of Communities, Councillor Jackie McCamon, added: “Youth work plays a key role in supporting all young people to be successful and confident individuals, in and out of school, evenings, weekends and during the school holidays, and I would encourage young people to get involved in the activities on offer this Easter, and beyond”.
