Council Launches Dedicated Webpage for the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III
Wednesday, 22 March 2023 14:19

The Coronation of His Majesty, King Charles III and his wife Camilla, Her Majesty, The Queen Consort, as King and Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms will take place on Saturday 6 May, at Westminster Abbey.

This historic occasion is an opportunity for communities in Dumfries and Galloway to organise events and come together in the way that best suits them so that the overall weekend is accessible, enjoyable and memorable for all our citizens.

The Palace has released information about the weekend of celebrations – so our Council has launched a dedicated website that will be continuously updated as further details are announced and arrangements made. It signposts to all the national celebrations including the Coronation Ceremony, the Coronation Big Lunch, the Big Help Out, and to the Coronation Champions Awards 2023  as well as other useful resources and signposts to funding for those looking to organise their very own Coronation Big Lunch or street party.

Dumfries and Galloway Council Civic Head, Councillor Malcolm Johnstone said: “We know that communities across Dumfries and Galloway are using this occasion to come together to celebrate the Coronation  the first for seventy years  with street parties, lunches and decorations; and to support the themes of reducing isolation, sharing food and supporting those most in need.

"Our Council is pleased to be able to support communities as they put their plans in place. We have agreed that Monday 8 May will be a Council holiday, and our Elected Members and staff will play their part in enabling our citizens to enjoy their weekend programme safely and positively."

"As the first Council in Scotland to achieve Investing in Volunteering accreditation, ‘The Big Help Out’ on Monday 8 May is strongly supported and is a great opportunity for our citizens to support each other.”
