Annual Joint Meeting
Tuesday, 31 January 2023 11:58
Dumfries and Galloway’s Community Planning Partnership Board held the third annual joint meeting with Dumfries and Galloway’s Youth Council on Friday 20 January at The Bridge in Dumfries.
The meeting brought together senior officers and Elected Members from a wide range of organisations including Dumfries and Galloway Council, NHS Dumfries and Galloway, South of Scotland Enterprise, Third Sector D&G, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service with representatives from Dumfries and Galloway Youth Council.
The meeting was themed around 3 of the top issues relevant to young people throughout communities across the region:
- Mental Health Services for Young People
- Climate Change and Environmental Action
- Involving Young People in Decision Making and Children’s Rights
Throughout the three hour meeting, each attendee participated in one workshop session looking at the current offer or approach, followed by a discussion around young people’s experiences, current challenges and future opportunities to deliver services for young people.
Nick Morris, Chairperson of Dumfries and Galloway’s NHS Board, led the Joint Community Planning Partnership Board session, stating:
“The Community Planning Partnership is very clear in our commitment to young people and the need for us to be responsive to what young people are telling us and changing how we operate as a result of these conversations. Our commitment following on from today’s meeting is to re-look at the partnership's agenda through the lens of the issues raised by young people”.
Finlay Anderson, Chairperson of Dumfries and Galloway Youth Council added:
“I believe today’s Joint Meeting is only the beginning for young people being heard by decision makers through the Community Planning Partnership. The sessions were positive and although decisions can take a long time to implement, the Youth Council will continue to advocate on behalf of young people throughout Dumfries and Galloway. Our organisation exists to close the gap between the people making decisions about services and young people using services – I would encourage any young person who is interested to get involved”.
The video recording of the meeting (excluding workshops) has been uploaded to Dumfries and Galloway Council's YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jL83SsbXrXU
