Volunteers Needed For World Champ Ice Hockey Event
Thursday, 03 November 2022 10:59

The local organising committee of the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship event being held at Dumfries Ice Bowl in January is on the lookout for volunteers to fill essential roles during the championships. The event takes place in January 2023 where the following teams will compete in the tournament from 20 January to 28 January;

  • Great Britain
  • Australia
  • Netherlands
  • Latvia
  • Turkey
  • Mexico

There are a number of roles available including Drivers, Goal Judges, Statistics Assistants, Video Camera Operators, Game Operations Assistants and other roles. The local community and people from further afield are encouraged to make enquiries either direct at Dumfries Ice Bowl or through Struan Tonnar, Local Event Lead at struan.tonnar@dumgal.gov.uk

Training for some of the technical roles can be provided so if you have no experience, don’t let that put you off, we would still be keen to hear from you.

Chair of Communities Committee Cllr Archie Dryburgh, and Vice Chair Cllr John Campbell said,

“The Council really wants to celebrate the Championships with the local community, and becoming a volunteer is a great way to be a part of a world class sporting occasion. Ice Hockey is a thrilling live sport to enjoy and we want to continue the excellent work that has been started at the previous championships at Dumfries Ice Bowl.”

Brian McMeeken has volunteered at previous events and already said he would be available to help out again,

“It’s great to be part of a world class event in my local town as it’s something that doesn’t come around very often. The thing I like best is the atmosphere that is created and we get well looked after by the organising team in Dumfries. I would encourage anyone to give it a go.”

If you are interested in volunteering your time at this event, please get in touch with Struan Tonnar at the Ice Bowl - Email: struan.tonnar@dumgal.gov.uk
