Recent releases
Members of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Economy and Resources Committee (19 Nov) will hear an update on the maintenance and upgrading of number of Council properties. This work supports our ambitions to cut costs, upgrade our remaining buildings to keep them sustainable, in line with modern energy efficiencies, and support our Climate Change promises.
Included in the programme are Municipal Chambers in Dumfries and Annan Swimming Pool. At Municipal Chambers additional thermostatic control of the heating system has been included to reduce energy usage. At the Annan Swimming Pool site, where replacement heating is being installed, a decision has been taken whilst works are ongoing, to include the replacement of heating in the adjacent Community Centre.
Some buildings are in need of electrical and system upgrades. Projects included in this are Moffat Town Hall which needs a Fire Alarm Replacement, Kirkcudbright Harbour Power Poles and a new project to relight Barnkirk Depot Workshop.
Also included in the programme is Ashwood House in Stranraer. The original Ashwood House project was to undertake alterations and refurbishment to create a smarter working environment. This project has now been upgraded to include additional works added into the project to upgrade the external fabric of the extension to the rear and mechanical and electrical refurbishment to the original stone section of the building. These works, although not in the original scope, will ensure a long-term future for this building.
Chair or Economy and Resources Committee, Rob Davidson said: “Our Council is continuing to invest in our buildings through this Capital Programme, not only in those buildings which are workplaces for our staff, but for our communities too. We continue to invest in our property, despite reviewing our overall stock to identify where we can cut costs by combining services and accommodation and disposing of surplus buildings.”
Vice Chair, Archie Dryburgh said: “This report shows a prudent investment of our limited budget. By investing in our portfolio, we will ensure that our properties are kept up to the required standards, making them not only sustainable and fit for purpose, but valuable assets.”
