Recent releases
The Oasis Events Team and the Public Protection Partnership have collaborated to develop a song writing competition for young people as part of their 16 Days of Action Campaign.
The aim of the song writing competition is to raise awareness of domestic abuse and other forms of gender-based violence, which affect mainly women and children. They not only have devastating consequences for the abused people but also a huge cost for society in general. The competition will contribute to our work towards the elimination of violence against women and girls in Dumfries and Galloway.
Young songwriters (up to 25 years old) in Dumfries and Galloway are invited to write a song about domestic abuse or any other form of gender-based violence, and all musical genres are welcome.
To enter, please send your song with a brief description about yourself to youth.work@dumgal.gov.uk
The closing date for entries is 5pm on Friday 15th November 2019.
Cairn Langan from the Oasis Events Team said “This song writing competition is a great opportunity for young people to be recognised for their amazing talents. I look forward to hearing people’s songs and working in partnership with the public protection partnership on future events”
Competition Prizes are:
1st Place: The opportunity to play winning song at Youth Beatz 2020 on main stage + a recording session at Oasis Youth Centre + Local Radio Interview
2nd Place: The opportunity to play song on second stage at Youth Beatz 2020 + a recording session at Oasis Youth Centre
3rd Place: Recording session at Oasis Youth Centre

In addition, the Public Protection Partnership recently developed an e-learning module that can be accessed by participants upon request.
Chair of the Communities Committee, Councillor Andy Ferguson said;
“The song writing competition is a great way for young people to showcase their talent while raising awareness of an issue that effects so many people in our region. I’m looking forward to hearing all the songs that are sent in and be part of the judging panel to see who will win the slots for Youth Beatz 2020.”
Vice Chair of the Communities Committee, Councillor John Martin added;
“As part of our commitment to the Public Protection Partnership, it is fantastic to see services working so well together to raise awareness of these issues. We have such a wealth of talent in our region, I hope this competition is embraced by as many as possible and I look forward to hearing the results.”
