Happy Birthday Oasis Centre
Thursday, 07 November 2019 15:58

The Oasis Youth Centre Management Committee is organising a 20th Anniversary Birthday Party on Saturday 16 November, from 1pm to 4pm at The Oasis Youth Centre.

This will be an opportunity to bring volunteers, staff, and partners from the past two decades together to celebrate 20 years of this dedicated youth centre. Through sharing stories, journeys and experiences, generations will be able to share what the Oasis meant to them. Our doors will be open, so please feel free to drop in and see us.

In the evening of Saturday 16 November, the Committee are also organising an ‘I am a Raver’ music event from 7pm to 9pm for young people aged 12 years old to 18 years old as a part of our Birthday Party Celebrations. Tickets can be purchased for this event for £4, from the Oasis Youth Centre.

Councillor Andy Ferguson, Chair of the Communities Committee commented;

“Having a dedicated Youth Centre that is celebrating its 20th Anniversary is a true testament to our Council’s commitment to young people and the dedicated, hard-working staff and volunteer team that have been supporting them brilliantly for so many years. We look forward to continuing to support our youth workers and young people in new and innovative ways in the future, to ensure the best outcomes for our communities.”

Over the years, Oasis has supported thousands of young people and this year, the Youth Management Committee are hoping to capture just some of what it has achieved.

In order to do this, an integral part of the birthday celebrations involves the launch of our impact research questionnaire. The impact questionnaire takes 5 minutes to complete and anyone who has had an interaction with the Oasis over the years is invited to fill it out so we can meaningfully measure the impact of our work.  Visit

Management Committee Member, Kelsey Fleming said;

“This year is really exciting. Oasis turning 20 is a massive milestone and gives us the chance to tell people just how important it is and has been to so many people, which we are hoping to capture through this questionnaire. Being involved in Oasis has offered me so many opportunities which have helped me no end. There are so many activities on offer and things you can get involved in and I would really encourage anyone thinking of getting involved to do so.”

Vice Chair of the Communities Committee, Councillor John Martin also said;

“This is an exciting project, being led by the voluntary management committee and I would encourage anyone with a connection to Oasis to get in contact and complete the questionnaire and come and celebrate their birthday with them.”

There will be lots of other fun activities and events taking place over the course of this year and next to celebrate the 20th Anniversary including the Young People Take Over, Big Sleep Out, and Jingle Bell Ball.
