Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Communities Committee will convene on Tuesday 5 November and will hear of a national success for our Revenues and Benefits Team.
The Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation (IRRV) is the national professional body for Revenues, Benefits and Valuation practitioners. In September this year, our Council’s Team comprising of Financial Wellbeing and Revenues, Financial Inclusion and Welfare Support Team were presented with a performance award for Excellence in Social Inclusion at the Scottish awards ceremony. The team followed this up with national success at a UK-wide ceremony in Telford earlier in October.
The national award saw our Council fend off competition from four other local authorities. Judges were impressed by our Council’s evidence of leading-edge innovative approaches to the delivery of social inclusion policies. Our Council was always praised for our clear political and strategic commitment to assisting those most in need and the high level of collaboration between the teams within the Council.
Chair of the Communities Committee, Councillor Andy Ferguson spoke of his joy ahead of the committee meeting on 5 November. He said;
“These awards are thoroughly deserved and are a testimony to the hard work and dedication of the teams within the directorate. Our staff are making a real difference to people’s lives by supporting them through really challenging issues relating to housing, welfare and poverty. I am very proud of all the staff involved in winning these awards.”
Vice Chairman of Communities Committee, Councillor John Martin commented;
“I was at the awards ceremony in Telford, and to hear first-hand about the superb work all the shortlisted local authorities are undertaking to help those who need it most was extremely eye-opening. Protecting our most vulnerable people is a key priority for our council and the Revs and Bens staff are at the absolute forefront of that.”
