Visual Arts Scotland Collective Exhibition – Gallery 1 Gracefield Arts Centre.
Tuesday, 01 October 2013 12:47
Gracefield is delighted to be working with Visual Arts Scotland, one of Scotland’s leading art groups, to show a selection of their members' work. The exhibition will be in Gallery 1 from 5 October to 9 November 2013.
VAS has been central to the contemporary art world in Scotland since the 1920s and today it has over 400 members throughout Scotland and England as well as further afield. The current president, Diana Hope, said, “We are an extensive community of artists, from those emerging and newly graduated, to well established figures, and provide opportunities to exhibit in some of Scotland’s most prestigious venues, and a hub for communication with both peers and with galleries and buyers throughout Scotland.”
VAS is one of the few organisations that actively promotes and exhibits the work of contemporary visual and applied artists. It is the only multidisciplinary platform where painters, sculptors, printmakers, photographers, jewellers, ceramicists, glass makers, textile artists, furniture makers, and installation artists exhibit together. For practising artists interested in joining as a member or finding out more about exhibiting, visit www.visualartsscotland.org.
There are over 80 artworks on show at Gracefield available to purchase, offering a great opportunity to start or enhance your collection of contemporary art. The work has been submitted by local Dumfries and Galloway members as well as VAS membership from across the country, from Wester Ross to the Scottish Borders. Payment can be made in the usual ways and Gracefield also operates an interest-free instalment payment scheme.
Also at Gracefield: the Saturday Kids Club season (age 5-12) and Baby and Toddler (18mths – 5) is underway with our usual exciting programme of art and craft activities to keep create hands busy. Call us for details of what’s coming up or check out the programme and where to find us on: www.dumgal.gov.uk/gracefield.
Admission to the exhibitions is free, and we are open Tuesday – Saturday 10am-5pm, with the concurrent exhibition in Gallery 2 ‘Charmian Pollok: Ghost Croft Archive’ continuing until 2 November. Gracefield is located at 28 Edinburgh Road, Dumfries.
