Blairmount Park Community Sport Hub Needs You
Wednesday, 25 September 2013 14:53
A sports and physical activity partnership is being formed to look at the opportunities to develop the facilities at Blairmount Park.

The steering group of Blairmount Park Community Sport Hub currently consists of representatives from the Galloway Thistle YFC, Newton Stewart FC and our Council's Active Schools and Community Sport. More clubs and groups are invited to join the group.

The new synthetic pitch is a fantastic development at Blairmount Park which will allow football and rugby to be played more often and in most conditions. The steering group wants to build on this success and find out what else the community would like to see happening at the park for all groups including families, other sports clubs, youth groups and older people.

One proposal is to improve the clubhouse facilities at the park and perhaps include play equipment and facilities for dog walkers. The steering group is about to consult with local people to gather their views and opinions and then to put together a plan to work towards improving the facilities and sports provision.

Councillor Jim McClung, Vice Chair of Wigtown Area Committee said, “The Community Sport Hub programme is a Sportscotland national initiative which seeks to engage with communities and clubs to find common goals and aspirations. I’m delighted that a steering group is being formed in relation to the developments at Blairmount Park and that the whole community is being encouraged to get involved.”
