A Big Boost For Local Business
Tuesday, 23 October 2012 12:17
Businesses across the Stewartry are invited to attend a number of Road shows being held across the region this month. The events will provide information on funding and advice to support businesses that are starting up or are looking to grow.
The road shows are taking place in partnership with the Council and Business Gateway. Since its launch in 2009 the Council’s Financial Assistance for Small Businesses Grant (FASB) Scheme has supported 103 businesses to the tune of £300,000.
Businesses in the Stewartry benefited from £76,000 of this funding which was provided to help support businesses operating in priority sectors within the region. Food and Drink and Tourism have been the major beneficiaries in the Stewartry area.
Last year Councillors at Stewartry Area Committee provided an additional boost by approving an additional £98,000 for local businesses in the Stewartry through this scheme.
Local business owner Mike Waite launched his business “The Bee Man” last year in Corsock. He has been supported through the new scheme and has already expanded his specialist honey producing and bee breeding business. “We have had a great start and our beekeeping courses for beginners have been very popular,” said Mike. “Business Gateway has been extremely supportive and our FASB grant will allow us to buy some much needed equipment to bottle the honey.”
Road shows are being held in Castle Douglas Town Hall on Tuesday 21 February from 6.30pm to 8pm and Dalbeattie Town Hall on Friday 24 February at 6.30pm till 8pm. Interested businesses should call Joanne Paul in economic development on 030 3333 3000 to book a place.
