New Electric Bus Service for Stranraer

This week sees the start of a new electric bus service linking the ferry ports at Cairnryan, to the railway station in Stranraer. This is the first fully electric bus to be used for a local bus service in Scotland.
The Regional Transport Partnership SWestrans is funding the local bus service which provides connectivity to rail and ferry departures 0630-2220, Monday to Saturday.
The 27 seat bus will be operated by MacLeans’ Taxis & Coaches and was part-funded by the Scottish Government’s Green Bus Fund.
Councillor Brian Collins, Chair of SWestrans, said: “The Regional Transport Partnership and Scottish Government investment in this service will ensure that there is significantly improved connectivity between Stranraer, its station, its ferry ports, and Northern Ireland and the Republic, which is particularly welcome in view of the potential traffic with the Commonwealth Games and Ryder Cup events in 2014.”
