Loreburn Housing opens new bungalows for supported housing
Tuesday, 20 August 2013 12:59
Loreburn Housing Association has recently completed a major refurbishment project at the four bungalows at Wellgreen, Dumfries. This project was funded by Loreburn Housing Association and carried out in partnership with the NHS and Dumfries and Galloway Council.
From the outset, the development was intended to provide supported living accommodation for clients identified by the NHS and Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Following negotiation, Loreburn Housing purchased the four existing bungalows from the NHS in April 2013. This allowed the contractor, Robison Construction, to start work on 29 April 2013.
Councillor Andy Ferguson is Chair of the Community Health and Social Care Partnership Board. He said, “This is very important occasion for all involved. Today we see the results of two years of genuine partnership working involving Social Work Services, Loreburn Housing Association, the NHS, User and Carer Involvement( UCI), staff and of course the people who will be moving in here, and families and carers. Working together since then has produced a result we can all be proud of.”
Glen Graham, Director of Services Loreburn Housing Association said, “With an identified client group, Loreburn Housing was able to refurbish and adapt the properties to meet the specific needs of the proposed tenants. Each bungalow will provide a new home to two tenants. We have new homes and a new care provider which together will give the residents a really good opportunity to live independently - safe in the knowledge that each of them will be supported in the way that works for them. “
The Building Contractor, Robison Construction, was on site for 14 weeks and has now completed the refurbishment on time and within budget.
The development was opened officially on 1st August 2013 by the new residents, at which time one of the residents said, “I am actually looking forward to the move, and the way things are going now. I’m looking forward to having my own place and being able to get stuff I need for the bungalow.”
