CXProject provides business grant for Border Tablet
Tuesday, 20 August 2013 08:35
Entrepreneurs Michael & Susan Robertson have been able to accelerate the growth of Langholm firm Border Tablet with advice and grant funding from the CXProject.

When Michael and Susan bought the confectionary company 10 months ago, they recognised considerable potential and wanted to build on the success of the previous owners.

Michael said, “There are very few businesses like us that still produce Traditional Scottish Tablet by hand. We’re proud that our products are made from a family inherited recipe with no modern-day additives or artificial preservatives, just like our Grannies used to make.”

In partnership with Business Gateway, the team at the CXProject provided business mentoring and Support, as well as grant assistance. This has helped Border Tablet achieve many of their initial objectives far more quickly.

Rebranding has helped position the company as a specialist artisan producer of handmade Scottish confectionery. A new range of flavoured tablet is in the pipeline and the new website has been optimised for mobile & tablet devices. The replacement of ageing kitchen equipment has also helped.

Michael Continued, “Our advice for other businesses in Annandale & Eskdale looking to develop and grow is. “Go for It!” The grant application process was very straightforward and everyone involved was ex-tremely supportive and helpful during the whole process. The fact that it has to be spent within 3 months was in itself a benefit, as it helps to focus the mind.”
John Grierson, Chapelcross site director said, “Border Tablet is just the latest example that the CXProject is making a real, positive difference in sustaining and growing local businesses to mitigate the impact on the local economy of the future decommissioning of Chapelcross. In the current economic climate, this grant has will allow Border Tablet to position and brand themselves strongly within the market place.”

Cllr Ian Carruthers, Chair of the Council's Planning, Housing and Environment Committee said:
"It is encouraging to see businesses in Annandale & Eskdale benefitting from CXProject funding and support.  Business Gateway also provided specialist  advice and reassurance which is very important to any business  considering expansion."
