Sizzling summer activities at Annan Museum
Wednesday, 31 July 2013 14:25
Families visiting the Dress to Impress exhibition at Annan Museum have been having great fun trying out a selection of Victorian optical toys and even dressing up as Victorians to create their very own historical family portrait.
Special event days have been taking place throughout the summer including a visit from the Dumfries Historical Dance Society and from contemporary photographer Alex Boyd. At the next event on Friday 9 August children can have a go at Natureprint photography by make arrangements of leaves, flowers and other found objects on special light sensitive paper, exposing it to daylight and then developing a picture. This free drop in activity (no booking required) will be available from 11am-1pm and 2-4pm. Children should be accompanied by an adult.
As well as the Dress to Impress exhibition events there are regular free Thursday morning workshops with Dumfries and Galloway Council Countryside Ranger Tom Henry. The theme of Tom’s workshops this summer relates to the natural habitat of the nearby Lochar Moss raised bog and includes making natural dyes from plants, how to make candles using plants from the bog and learning how people travelled across wet wildernesses. There are three more session in the holidays on Thursdays 1, 8 and 15 August, all running from 11am until 12 noon. Numbers are limited for these workshops so booking is strongly advised - telephone Annan Museum on 01461 201384.
Visitor information for exhibitions and events for Dumfries and Annan Museums is available at www.dumgal.gov.uk/artsandmuseums.
