Engineering Fair Success
Thursday, 04 July 2013 08:29
An Engineering Recruitment Fair held at the Cairndale Hotel Dumfries toward the end of June has been hailed as a success. The event was to introduce young people to careers in engineering and attracted over 140 attendees.
The fair was a joint venture by Dumfries & Galloway Employment TAP and the Sector Skills Council for Engineering (SEMTA)
Attendance at the event was much higher than anticipated and both local engineering employers and young people thought it a worthwhile experience. Some of the comments included:
"Hope it’s on next year"
"It was an interesting event that allowed me to get valuable information"
"It was beneficial to me and I gained lots of information"
Chair of the Council's Planning, Housing and Environment Committee Councillor Ian Carruthers said:
“This event highlighted all that the region has to offer in terms of high quality engineering and employment opportunities. Between them, companies attending the event are already supporting around 15 Modern Apprenticeships.”
This event was one of a series of future planned events designed to raise awareness of local businesses and the career opportunities available.
