Common Good Funds

Our Common Good Fund provides groups or individuals with financial help to organise events and activities for residents in their area.

The Common Good Funds are made up of money, land and buildings plus moveable items such as the provost chain and badge, various robes and official garments, paintings and artifacts. We keep a register of land and buildings owned by Common Good Funds .

Depending on the criteria, funds may be awarded for:

  • improving the appearance of the area
  • attracting people into the area
  • positively raising the profile of the area
  • promoting awareness of the area
  • contributing to a larger scale project with a longer term goal

Funding is open to a range of applicants, including:

  • Third sector, voluntary and community organisations
  • Community groups which have a constitution
  • Individuals

Dumfries Small Grants Scheme

Applications will be assessed on a first come first served basis until funds are fully committed, so you are encouraged to submit your applications without delay.

All applications from community organisations require match-funding of at least 50% which must be detailed in the application, and confirmed before grants are paid out.  The maximum grant award to community organisations is £1,500.

Applications from individuals will be considered on a sponsorship basis only. The applicant must be resident in Dumfries Burgh.  No match-funding is required from individuals but applications incorporating match-funding or fundraising activities will be considered more favourably.  The maximum grant award to individuals is £500.

Projects must be completed no later than 31 December 2024.
