Business Infrastructure Programme
The council is developing proposals for the construction of 3 new business parks across the region as part of the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal.
The aim of the project is to tackle market failure by supporting the private sector to invest in the development of business sites in strategic locations near market towns across the region.
The sites will be promoted for micro, small and medium enterprises who live and work locally. Facilitating serviced sites for development and creating new, modern, energy efficient, sustainable units for sale will help to address the demand for business space in rural areas across Dumfries and Galloway.
The main objectives are:
- Create Critical Mass and a Dynamic Business Environment by providing high quality business space in strategic locations that provide clusters of business activity.
- Improve Site Uptake: Increase the uptake of the area's allocated employment land by growth businesses and establish towns as key trading nodes with a dynamic business environment.
- Develop the Quality of the Supply of Investment Property: The provision of new supply of high-quality business space for rent/sale to meet demand.
The proposed outcomes of the project include:
- 3.76 ha of land serviced and made available for development.
- 1695m2 of business floorspace constructed for owner occupation,
- 39 net additional jobs created.
- £29m additional GVA for Dumfries and Galloway
The project aims to incorporate renewable energy solutions in the design of the units to ensure owners benefit from the most energy efficient, sustainable spaces to suit their needs.
