Doorstep crime and no cold calling zones

Doorstep crime includes many different types of behaviour - bogus workmen, distraction burglary, poor workmanship or misleading/aggressive trading practices.

Unscrupulous traders will often target vulnerable people including the elderly, isolated householders and people living alone. Doorstep criminals can be very convincing.

We want to hear if you have traders calling on you to offer home improvement services, such as gardening, roofing and driveway work:

No cold calling zones

We have an initiative to tackle doorstep crime by giving you the confidence to say no to unwanted doorstep traders. Zones are usually defined by lamp post signs and stickers placed in the doors or windows of homes within the zone

Areas that have adopted zones so far are:

  • Holroyd Road, Kirkcudbright
  • Kindale Terrace, Kirkcudbright
  • Meadowside, Gatehouse
  • Millhall, Kirkcudbright
  • River Park, Annan
  • Westwood Avenue, Stranraer
  • GeorgetownRoad, Dumfries
  • Fruids Park Avenue, Annan
  • Southwick Drive, Dalbeattie
