Stewartry Sport engagement event

Calling all clubs, organisations and individuals with an interest in sport in the Stewartry…
Dumfries and Galloway Council, in partnership with Stewartry Sports Council, is hosting a Stewartry Sport Engagement Event on Monday 27th May from 7.00-8.30pm at Castle Douglas High School Assembly Hall. The event is an informal drop in session where individuals, sports clubs and sports organisations can find out more about what opportunities, support and guidance are available in relation to sport in the Stewartry. Free refreshments will be available and a number of tables will be set up with opportunities to:
• Meet our Council’s new Stewartry Active Schools and Community Sport Team. They can provide support and guidance to individuals, sports clubs and other sports organisations in the Stewartry as well as support with club development and accreditation. The team also work closely with schools and can discuss links with schools.
• Meet the Stewartry Sports Council. There is an opportunity to find out more about the Sports Council including information about funding opportunities, use of the minibus and Sports Council meetings. For current members there is an opportunity to discuss how the organisation could develop further.
• Find out about sources of funding. Partnership Support Officer Pat Riley can provide information and advice with regards Stewartry Area Committee Discretionary Grants and External Funding Officer Ruth Patterson can provide information and advice with regards other potential sources of funding.
• Find out about Community Sport Hubs. Community Sport Hub Development Officer Sue Brodie can provide information on Community Sport Hubs in Dumfries and Galloway and will be available to discuss any matters relating to the development of Hubs in the Stewartry.
• Find out about coach education and training opportunities. Coach Education Officer Senga Thomson will be on hand to provide details of upcoming courses and can also discuss any needs you or your organisation may have.
• Find out about Positive Coaching Scotland. Priority Sport Officer Scott McMeeken will be on hand to provide details on this exciting programme which supports the development of clubs and aims to improve the culture of youth sport.
• Find out more about Council Facilities. Brian Johnson of the Council facilities team will be on hand with information about local facilities and can discuss the potential use of any Council facilities in the Stewartry including sports centres, grass pitches and Castle Douglas Swimming Pool. Current users can use this an opportunity to discuss their existing usage or bookings with the Council.
• Find out about disability sport. Disability Sport Officer Senga Thomson will be on hand to offer information and support with regards disability sport.
• Find out about volunteering. Volunteer Action will be on hand to discuss volunteering and the use of volunteers, and the support and guidance available from the organisation.
Following the event Stewartry Sports Council will host their AGM. Attendance at the AGM is optional and you may leave after attending the sport engagement event if you wish.
