Recent releases
An amazing summer has been launched from the Annandale and Eskdale Youth Group (AEYG) in support with exciting Dumfries & Galloway Council’s Youth Work Service. On receiving £9990, the AEYG will be providing trips throughout the summer as well as youth cafes with volunteers from XCEL in Langholm.
Due to the Amazing Summer funding this summer program will only be available to S1 – S6 young people across Dumfries and Galloway. The programme will offer young people a wide range of free activities, food and transport from 28th June – 15th August.
Did you hear Annan has an indoor bouldering climbing centre? For 3 hours we will climb, learn rope work and get some food. If you would like to learn this new skill for free there will be multiple dates on offer.
Every Wednesday evening their will be a youth Café for young people living in Langholm, this will be in XCEL youth room at Langholm Social Club. There will be free food, competitions, arts and crafts and sports on offer from 5pm – 9pm.
Have you ever thought about climbing Criffle hill? We have 14 spaces that our experienced hill leader and new member of staff would love to support you conquer! Go at the pace that works for you and work as a team to get the picnic and view at the top!
Are you ready to jump as high as you can? Would you like to travel a little further a field? Fusion Trampoline Park in Carlisle is booked for multiple trips supporting all 4 Academies to get a chance as well as 2 targetted trips for young people with ASN and Disabilities.
Would you like to try some water activities or like to go to Galloway Activity Centre? Let us know, we have multiple trips going with a BBQ at the end of the activity!
Do you need sand beneath your toes? How about a BBQ on the beach? Join us on our trips to Powfoot beach for a hours of fun on the beach!
All trips are dependant on COVID guidance and can be cancelled due to this. When in a minibus we ask masks to be worn unless exempt. Hands to be sanitized at multiple points directed by youth workers and activity staff. If you have any symptoms or test positive please contact staff to give someone the space. If after the trip you test positive within 48 hours you must contact us and put us on your track and trace.
Councillor John Martin, vice chair of Communities committee said: “It was pleasing to hear about the plans for the youth work summer programme. Young people really do deserve to enjoy an amazing summer full of opportunities they can share with their peers especially after COVID restrictions during lockdown, experiences like this can make a significant difference to them”.
Councillor Andy Ferguson, chair of Communities committee said: “It is great to see the breadth of opportunities provided in this youth work summer programme, I am sure young people will really enjoy participating in activities and experiences that can have a big impact in local communities”.
Sarah Lunney, Chair Person of Annandale and Eskdale Youth Group said: “I am very excited for this summer after hearing that there will be fun activities and amazing opportunities arranged for young people to give them an enjoyable summer after the events of the past year. I am positive it is going to be very beneficial for young peoples mental health and also is going to give young people the opportunity to experience things they might have missed for various reasons. I am very excited for this amazing summer and I am sure all other young people feel the same, thank you to the funders providing this.”
