Holiday Hunger Activities Tackling Poverty
Wednesday, 03 July 2019 12:43

As part of our on-going work to tackle poverty across the region, our Council have organised a huge range of events and activities which are planned throughout our region over each week of the summer holidays to keep all children and young people happy, healthy and in touch with their friends.

This programme of free events offers a wide range of events which will be fun based with free transport to each of the locations.

There are so many different events to choose from including Family Fun Activities, Youth Work Activities including gaming, cooking and just fun along Music Camps, Cycling Fun Days and for the most adventurous among us even a Triathlon! Full details are available on our website. For more details on free transport to each of the activities please see www.dumgal.gov.uk or contact our Youth Work Activities Facebook Page on @YouthWorkDG.

Each event provides free breakfasts, lunches or dinner depending on the time of day in which it is held so don’t worry about bringing anything along – everything is all provided for you.

Councillor Andy Ferguson, Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Communities Committee stated;

“We look after all of our children and young people during each school day and we are extending this to providing a range of free, fun activities which everyone can attend throughout our region all through our long summer holidays. These events have been specifically designed to be as fun as possible and offer families the chance to spend time together and for children and young people to meet with their friends at. These will be a great way to spend a day”.

Councillor John Martin, Vice Chair of Communities Committee stated;

“All families, children and young people can attend any of the events that we have planned free of charge and it’s a great way to keep in touch with your friends through the holidays. We want to ensure that families which can sometimes struggle during holiday times are able to access free events which we have designed to appeal to as many children and young people as possible so please have a look at what is on offer and come along.”
