Positive report for Amisfield Primary
Tuesday, 30 April 2019 11:36
Education Scotland inspected Amisfield Primary School in January to find out how well children are learning and achieving. During the visit, the inspection team worked closely with pupils, parents and staff.
Ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion were evaluated as ‘Very Good’.
Leadership of change, learning, teaching and assessment and raising attainment and achievement were judged to be ‘Good’.
Education Scotland recognised strengths in the school’s work:
• Strong positive relationships and a warm welcoming family environment.
• Children’s deep understanding of disability, diversity and wellbeing. They engage confidently in conversations about their own wellbeing and that of others. They know about and can apply helpful strategies to support their mental health.
• The headteacher’s leadership and direction in addressing relationships, sexual health and parenthood, across the school and at a national level.
• Staff teamwork and engaging the local and wider community in improving learning experiences for children.
Parent Council Chair, Eric Bridgwood, said: “An excellent report recognising the dedication of all staff who, under Mrs Scriven’s leadership, provide and maintain a positive learning experience for all pupils.”
Councillor Jeff Leaver, chair of the Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning [CYPLL] committee, said: "Providing the best start in life for all our children is a priority for our Council. So, I'm pleased with Education Scotland's positive report on Amisfield Primary School. Thanks are due to all staff and pupils who contributed towards this."
Ros Surtees, vice chair, said: "Education should open the doors to opportunities that enable children to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens, and effective contributors to society. So, it's pleasing to see this positive inspection report on Amisfield Primary School.”
In seeking continuous improvement, inspectors asked the school to ensure: children experience a broad curriculum; staff develop a shared understanding of national expected standards that help to raise attainment further; improvement in children’s skills in independent learning; and appropriate pace and challenge of learning taking greater account of what children already know.
Headteacher, Karen Scriven, said: “The staff had a very positive experience with the Inspection Team. I’m delighted with the outcome that shows the hard work and commitment of all pupils, parents and staff.”
Education Scotland noted the school’s good work in ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion for sharing more widely.
