Region gets £9.7m towards affordable housing
Tuesday, 02 July 2013 14:55
The Scottish Government has announced additional funding for our Council's Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP). The announcement means that £9.7million will be spent between 2015-2018 on building new affordable homes in the region.
Our Council has gone from a 3 year investment plan which started in 2013 to a 5 year plan, but the additional funding and 2 year extension means that by the end of 2018, a minimum of 488 new affordable homes will be available in Dumfries and Galloway. The 488 figure, includes the 69 affordable homes to be delivered in Dumfries in partnership with the National Housing Trust.
Councillor Jim McClung, Chair of the Housing Sub Committee said:
"The additional funding means that we can now implement all of our affordable housing schemes. Before this announcement, there were
a number of slippage projects but these can now be delivered together with new inititatives. We are continuing to exceed our targets and responding to the region's housing needs."
