Scene1Take1, the filmmaking club based in Dumfries, is running a filmmaking summer school for children aged 10 to 18 in July.
The summer school will take place at the Robert Burns Centre Film Theatre on Mill Road, Dumfries on Monday 22 to Friday 26 July, 10am to 3pm each day.
During the 5 day course students will make a 7 minute film and produce a DVD at the end.
Organisers say: “If your child wants to get into video film making and has no idea where to start, then this course is ideal. It’s a perfect beginners’ course to digital film making and covers all basic aspects of video production. From story boarding a film, right through to shooting, editing and screening the finished movie. Equally, it would be really equally rewarding for a child with some experience of filmmaking.”
The aim is to make a ‘genre’ based short fiction film (sci-fi, horror, thriller etc), but the theme and story will be chosen by the group.
The workshop will be led by Lee Vann-Wakelin, a trained professional with experience in film-making in the UK and also the US. Lee now resides in Dumfries with his family, and runs a popular sandwich shop. In 2009 Lee set up weekly youth film making club Scene1take1 and in his spare time he puts all of his efforts into helping engage, train and advance local film makers.
The cost for the week-long course is £20. To book please telephone the Film Theatre Box Office on 01387 264808.
