Horse trapped, Sanquhar
Thursday, 29 November 2012 19:40
On Tuesday 14 February 2012, at approximately 1700 hours, Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a horse trapped under a fallen tree at a farm in Sanquhar.
One fire appliance from Sanquhar, the Major Rescue Vehicle from Dumfries, a Supervisory Officer and the Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service large animal rescue expert were mobilised to the incident.
Upon arrival, the officer in charge was confronted by a large horse which had slid down the side of a gully and become stuck under a fallen tree.
Firefighters set up scene lighting and used small gear including strops, lines and tirfor lifting equipment to free the trapped horse from under the tree.
Unfortunately the horse had sustained serious injuries and had to be humanely put down at the incident by the vet in attendance.
