Area Committee Funding

Area Committee Discretionary Budget

Our Council has allocated a Discretionary Budget and Tackling Poverty and Inequalities Budget to each of the four Area Committees to support their Priority Areas for 2024/25. 

During May 2024, the four Area Committees met and agreed priorities for their area for both of these Budgets and details of the funds available are shown below.

Annandale and Eskdale

At its meeting on 22 May 2024, Annandale & Eskdale Area Committee agreed a number of funding priorities and agreed to open schemes for the following:

Tackling Poverty and Inequalities 

Awards of up to £10,000 are available to organisations focusing on the following priorities to tackle poverty and inequality across Annandale & Eskdale.  There is also a small grant fund to support project or initiative's up to £1000.

  • Digital Connectivity
  • Prevention of Domestic Abuse
  • Energy / Fuel
  • Food Insecurity
  • Mental Health
  • Transport
  • Upskilling / Employability
  • Increasing Dignity & Self Esteem
  • Supporting Independent Living to vulnerable / pre-vulnerable clients to help them to stay within their own homes

  • Deadline for Applications - 24 July 2024 (mid-day)
  • Decisions by Area Committee - 27 September 2024

We cannot fund any activity/costs committed to or paid for prior to a decision.

Annandale and Eskdale Sports Grants

Small grant programme for local athletes (up to £300) and sports clubs (up to £500).  Support for local athletes that would not otherwise receive any financial help from National Sporting Bodies in pursuit of their sport and to also assist groups and individuals to reach their sporting goals through small financial awards.

We cannot fund any activity/costs committed to or paid for prior to a decision.

Annandale & Eskdale Sports Grants has a total budget of £4,500 and is open for applications as follows with decisions made shortly after closing;

Open: 1 June Closes: 31 September 2024 (mid-day)

Nithsdale

Tackling Poverty and Inequalities 

At its meeting on 11 September 2024, Nithsdale Area Committee agreed to open a Small Grant Scheme focused on tackling poverty and inequality, with grants available up to £1,500 towards a number of key priority areas:

  • Digital Connectivity
  • Food Insecurity
  • Fuel Poverty
  • Warm Hubs
  • Advice and support services (financial management/lifestyle)

The fund is specifically for projects within the Nithsdale area and applications will be assessed on a first come first served basis.  All activity must conclude by the 30 September 2025 with a final monitoring report submitted by 1 October 2025.

Nithsdale Sports Grants 

Small grant programme for local athletes (up to £200) and sports clubs (up to £500).  Support for local athletes that would not otherwise receive any financial help from National Sporting Bodies in pursuit of their sport and to also assist groups and individuals to reach their sporting goals through small financial awards.

We cannot fund any activity/costs committed to or paid for prior to a decision.

Nithsdale Sports Grants has a total budget of £8,000 and will open for applications with 2 distinct deadlines with decisions made shortly thereafter;

  • Round 1 - Closed to applications 
  • Round 2 - Closing Date - 1 November 2024 (mid-day)

Small grant programme to support hospitality after remembrance parades taking place in Nithsdale - up to £300.  Awards made on a first-come first-served basis.

Stewartry

Tackling Poverty and Inequalities 

At its meeting on 18 September 2024, Stewartry Area Committee agreed to open a Small Grant Scheme focused on tackling poverty and inequality, with grants available up to £1,001 towards the following key priorities:

  • Digital Connectivity
  • Food Insecurity and Clothing
  • Fuel Poverty

The fund is specifically for projects within the Stewartry area and applications will be assessed on a first come first served basis.  All activity must conclude by the 30 September 2025 with a final monitoring report submitted by 1 October 2025.

Wigtown

At its meeting on 1 May 2024, Wigtown Area Committee agreed a number of funding priorities and agreed to open schemes for the following:

Tackling Poverty and Inequalities  - Main grant

Every project applying for funding must demonstrate how it will ultimately assist to reduce child poverty as well as one or more of the following Priorities:

  • Food Insecurity
  • Energy / Fuel
  • Warm Hubs
  • Digital Connectivity

Constituted Groups, operating in the Wigtown area, can apply for up to £10,000 towards projects which support one or more of the priorities. 

The fund is currently closed and applications are being assessed by the scoring panel. Recommendations will be presented to the commitee in September 2024.

Wigtown Tackling Poverty and Inequalities  - Small grant 

Every project applying for funding must demonstrate how it will ultimately assist to reduce child poverty as well as one or more of the following Priorities:

  • Food Insecurity
  • Energy / Fuel
  • Warm Hubs
  • Digital Connectivity

Constituted Groups, operating in the Wigtown area, can apply for up to £2,000 towards projects which support one or more of the priorities. 

This small grant scheme is delegated to the Lead Officer, in consultation with Local Ward Members allowing for faster disbursement of grant awards.

Applications will be assessed on a first-come first-served basis until funds are fully committed and will close on 2 August 2024.

Wigtown Discritionary budget

Wigtown Area Committee agreed priority areas:

  • Christmas Decorations and Community Events
  • Remembrance/Armed Forces and Princess Victoria Commemoration
  • Wigtownshire Sports Council
  • Museums
  • Festivals and Events

Expression of Interest

Wigtown Area Committee has allocated funding to key priority areas for 2024/25 which it seeks Expression of Interest from delivery partners to lead on the delivery of these projects.
