Coronavirus (COVID-19) -
Information and advice.

Recycling centres

Our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) are currently open in line with Government guidance. To allow a full recycling service to be provided whilst ensuring social distancing can be safely managed on the sites a booking system is in operation for all twelve HWRCs.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions we regret to advise that staff will not be able to assist you in unloading your vehicle.  Further information can be found in our FAQs .

By booking and turning up as close to your allotted 10 minute timeslot as possible queuing traffic impacting on the public road network will be minimised.  See below for links for booking a slot at individual sites.

Please note that once you have a made a booking you will need to click the 'Manage Booking' link in your confirmation email if you wish to cancel or amend this booking.

Most vehicle types (e.g. cars, vans, 4 x 4s, pickups) are permitted on site.  However, sites are unsuitable for the use of larger plant vehicles and tractors to dispose of household waste. You are also welcome to attend your chosen site by public transport, bicycle or on foot.

Trailer rules:

  • Cars with single or twin-axle trailers
  • Vans with single axle trailers
  • Loose waste e.g. rubble, soil in trailer must be bagged

Free Recycling Boxes

From 12 October 2020 you can now collect free plastic recycling boxes when visiting a HWRC (excludes Newton Stewart, Stranraer and Whithorn as boxes have already been distributed to every household in these areas).  These can be used to store glass bottles and jars to take to a Recycling Point.

  • Each household can collect up to 3 boxes
  • Sites have limited storage so boxes may not always be available
  • Don't forget to book your visit as you will not be able to collect boxes without a booking

Use our address search if you aren't sure which recycling centres are near you.

There are also many recycling points across the region where you can take some household waste for recycling. The recycling points can be found in places such as supermarkets or village halls and might be a useful alternative to recycling centres.

You are encouraged to, as far as possible, have your recycling organised in boxes and bags to help ensure your time on site is within the 10 minute slot.

In order to provide flexibility whilst managing social distancing on site and avoid long queues please don't arrive more than 10 minutes ahead of you time slot or 10 minutes after the end of your time slot. Our staff will do all they can to ensure you can recycle your waste. Whenever you arrive there may be a short queue, we appreciate your patience.
