Enterprise Seed Fund

A £1,500 Development Grant is now available to support Start-Up and Early-Stage business reach their natural potential.

The Enterprise Seed Fund is a new initiative from Dumfries and Galloway Council's Business Gateway to support Start-Up and Early-Stage Development businesses covering from pre-start to 12 months of trading.

The grant will be a flat rate of £1,500 to cover the project capital costs and requires to be match funded by the applicant (i.e. at least a £1,500 investment from applicant).

The Initiative will operate on a first-come-first-served basis until the funding to operate it is exhausted.

The purpose of the grant scheme is to support business start-up and development, encourage exporting, stimulate the local economy and assist with the safeguarding and generation of new employment.

The grant is typically for capital-based spending such as new equipment, initial shop/workshop fit out, web development, signage etc. Stock and working capital elements are not eligible for this fund.

Existing businesses who have up to 12 months trading would also be eligible to apply to fund early-stage development projects and/or feasibility studies that could lead to much larger projects supporting Inclusive Growth, Place based growth, and fair work.

Successful applications should demonstrate:

  • Market demand,
  • Employment opportunities,
  • Project viability,
  • Achievable and measurable goals,
  • and the need for funding.

The award of a grant will be decided by a funding panel on a case-by-case basis and depends on the viability of idea and cashflow forecast.

Clients will be required to demonstrate the need for funding and that the success of their project will fulfil the goals of the Regional Economic Strategies of Dumfries and Galloway Council  and the current Scottish Government's Economic Strategy 2021

Clients will be supported in the application journey by an advisor from Business Gateway or an officer from their Council's Economic Development Team.  This support will continue post-funding award to ensure their development potential is maximised.
