Renewal of marriage vows
You can arrange a renewal of marriage vows ceremony in a registration office or one of the other approved venues across Dumfries and Galloway.
Renewal of vows ceremonies give married couples the opportunity to renew their marriage vows and to celebrate their married years together.
Every ceremony will be unique and special people in the couple's lives can be invited to take part in the ceremony. Ceremonies are secular and do not contain religious references. The ceremony has no legal status and the couple's marriage certificate must be shown before a ceremony can be booked.
Often these ceremonies are arranged with a special wedding anniversary in mind, such as the tenth, twenty-fifth or even golden, but these ceremonies are just as appropriate at any stage of your marriage.
Registration offices
There are a number of registration offices across the region where you can organise a renewal of marriage vows ceremony. Our registrars can check availability and make arrangements for your ceremony.
Authorised venues
Our registrars can also conduct renewal of marriage vows ceremonies at authorised venues in Dumfries and Galloway. You should contact the venues to discuss availability and costs but you'll also need to contact a registration office to complete the required documents.
Please email weddings@dumgal.gov.uk if you'd like to conduct a ceremony at a venue which isn't already authorised. The process can take at least 6 weeks.
Costs
The basic fee for a renewal of marriage vows is £246. We charge an extra £118 for ceremonies held on a Saturday or an extra £178 for public holidays.
Other charges may also apply at certain registration offices, ask your registrar for further details. Authorised venues will have additional costs for using their facilities.
