Recent releases
Dumfries and Galloway Council provided £25,000 match funding to five local community groups so they could apply for funding to the Scotland Loves Local Fund, who are investing £42,000 in Dumfries and Galloway.
Projects stretch across our region:
- In Annan, the History Town Group are looking to put the town on the map with a programme of events and communications.
- In Moffat, the Community Council have some exciting plans to get tourists exploring the town using an old phone box.
- The Stranraer Development Trust are running a Christmas programme and a youth work project on the Garden of Friendship.
- The Balmaclellan Community Trust are developing the community gardens and library as well as improving their clubs for older residents.
- In Dalbeattie the Birchvale Players are going to upgrade the theatre adding an outdoor performance space as well as improving their technology.
- And the Castle Douglas Development Forum, who received funding directly from Scotland Loves Local, are supporting the implementation of the ecommerce ShopAppy project.
Chair of the Council’s Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee, Rob Davidson said “We are committed to supporting local community groups to help them improve their towns. It is great to see all areas of the region represented and Dumfries and Galloway as a whole, attracting significant funding from national programmes to our area.”
Archie Dryburgh, Vice Chair of the Committee commented: “It is exciting to see the creativity that is in our region being unleashed by this funding. Every group came up with a different idea that fits the needs and the opportunity in their local community. I look forward to seeing how the projects progress.”
The Scotland Loves Local Fund has been administered by Scotland’s Towns Partnership, the organisation spearheading Scotland Loves Local.
