Young People in Dumfries and Galloway have the chance to take part in a wide range of free activities over the Summer Holidays.
Free activities are available across Dumfries and Galloway during the Summer School Holidays, and are specifically aimed at providing children and young people, in Primary 1 to S6, with opportunities to meet with their friends and take part in free activities. In particular, these activities will provide support for those children and young people who may otherwise struggle to access such experiences during the holidays, and will give them the opportunity to socialise, play and reconnect with their local communities and environments.
There are activities for all interests and age ranges, from horse riding lessons, free sports facility access, drama and acting camps, amongst a host of great activities for children and young people this Summer
Following on from the funding being made available to local Third Sector organisations and businesses in Dumfries and Galloway to give Children and Young people a Summer to remember, young people are being encouraged to ‘Get into Summer’
Councillor Adam Wilson, Young Person's Champion, said: “Children and young people have been some of the worst effected by the pandemic, and the wide range of activities on offer this Summer will give them the opportunity to get back out with their friends and enjoy the school Summer holidays as they have in previous years. There really is something for everyone and I encourage all of our children and young people to make the most of this opportunity and take part in as many of the wonderful activities on offer.
“The young people on the co-production group have done an excellent job in ensuring the right type of activities are on offer to Children and Young People this Summer. From setting the priorities of the funding, to sitting on the scoring panels for the funding they have ensured that the funding goes to those activities that will make the most difference to young people, I hope that all our children and young people have a great summer holiday and enjoy all that is on offer to them”
Hannah Birse, Chairperson of Dumfries and Galloway Youth Council said: “We received an extremely high number of applications for this funding, and it was a difficult job in making sure that the right activities were made available to young people. This is a great programme of activities and we cannot wait to see young people across Dumfries and Galloway having an amazing Summer with their friends. Opportunities for so many free activities don’t come around often, so I encourage everyone to visit the webpage and sign up for as much as they can ”
