A new Deputy Lieutenant has been appointed for The Stewartry: Mark Jardine MBE.
Born and raised in Dumfries, Mark attended Dumfries Academy. He attained a BA in English and Psychology from Strathclyde University.
Mark then joined the family business, Jardine Funeral Directors. He was instrumental in establishing the Roucan Loch crematorium and woodland burial site at Collin, near Dumfries. As a funeral celebrant, he has conducted more than 7,000 services.
He has been president of the Scottish Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors, acted as ombudsman in disputes, set up the Bereaved Parents’ Group, chairman of Dumfries Round Table, a member of Dumfries Devorgilla Rotary Club, a Guid Nychburris Baillie, a trustee of the Gretna Landmark project, and established The People’s Project.
He was a coach at Greystone Rovers Youth Football Club for many years and is a lifelong supporter of Queen of the South FC.
Mark was awarded the MBE in 2020 ‘for services to the community in Dumfries and Galloway, including the creation of Roucan Loch Crematorium and Woodland Burial Site, and for founding the People’s Project’.
Mark has 3 sons and is married to Ruth.
Lord Lieutenant Patsy Gilroy said: “I’m delighted that Mark has been appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant for The Stewartry. He brings a wealth of knowledge and fresh enthusiasm to the role. He will be an invaluable asset in representing Her Majesty The Queen in our region.”
