cv19: Support for businesses in D&G
Wednesday, 25 March 2020 10:18
Our Council recognises that these are extremely challenging times for many local businesses and that this current Covid-19 pandemic is also causing an economic emergency. We want to reassure businesses of all sizes that, along with our partners, we will do everything we can to help during this unprecedented public health crisis.

We know our support to you is critical and we are working with other local and national organisations, including the new South of Scotland Enterprise Agency, to prepare guidance, advice, tailor our support, and fill gaps in funding.

We have today opened up the cash grants scheme, under which many businesses will receive either £10k or £25K grants. Application forms and guidance notes are on our website now www.dumgal.gov.uk/article/20660/COVID-19-Support-for-Local-Businesses and we will prioritise dealing with submitted applications quickly to get much needed support out to businesses.

Government funding and relief for small and medium businesses will be available imminently and our Council will be distributing this as quickly as possible to get the funding out to the businesses who need it.
To enable us to apply Business Rates relief, we have delayed sending out our annual bills until later I the financial year. This will ensure that our retail, hospitality and tourism businesses will receive their 100% rates-relief for next year and all businesses are to have their rates poundage frozen.
We continue to carry out a great deal of work behind the scenes as we appreciate that support will need to be directed to businesses urgently. We have set up a number of ways to contact us:
CALL: our dedicated helpline on 01387 260 280 (Mon-Fri 9-5)
EMAIL: supportDGBusiness@dumgal.gov.uk

For specific advice on Non Domestic Rates reliefs – ndr@dumgal.gov.uk or call: 01387 260085

Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Economy and Resources Committee, Rob Davidson, said: “Our Council recognises that keeping businesses afloat will be vital to the economic future of our region, so we must act now and do everything we can to help you through this crisis. We are at a critical time, but with continued assistance we will be able to help companies and enterprises to face our current emergency.

"Please get in touch with us as soon as possible so that we can help and support you through this difficult time. We need to know what you require so that, with our partners, we can target the correct support to where it is needed most.”
