Seasonal Message from Leader and Depute Leader of Dumfries and Galloway Council

After what has been a truly dramatic year, we are now entering a period when we would normally be partying with family and friends. However, this year we will all have a most unwelcome guest: Covid-19, a highly contagious and deadly virus.

While we all want to have an enjoyable festive season, we must be extremely careful not to increase the Covid-19 transmission rate and risk the health and lives of our loved ones, particularly our elderly relatives and those who are vulnerable for other reasons.

Clearly, the safest way to spend Christmas and New Year is within your own home and household. But the Covid-19 restrictions will be relaxed between 23 and 27 December to allow people to travel within the UK and spend Christmas together. So, we must be careful to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

We fully appreciate your effort and sacrifice to suppress the spread of Covid-19 so far. And we recognise the desire for a 'traditional' Christmas. But it's vital we don't just throw away all the progress we've made over the festive season. We mustn't risk the lives of our loved ones for short-term pleasure.

So, please continue to stick to FACTS:

  • Face coverings
  • Avoid crowded places
  • Clean your hands regularly
  • Two metre distance
  • Self-isolate and book a test if you have symptoms

With our very best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Elaine Murray & Rob Davidson
