A traffic regulation order is required by any person or organisation who plans to carry out works within the public road boundary, which requires the closure of any public road. Road closure requests can be submitted using an online form.

Road closures are often required for various reasons such as major works by utility companies, resurfacing of the existing carriageway or during local pageant events. Charges apply to road closures.

This system is for planned road closures only and not roadworks, except when the road is closed for this purpose.

Charges

The current charges for temporary road closures are:

• Commercial organisations - £420
• Charitable type activity and sporting events with economic benefit to local community - £294
• Registered Charities - £48

Cost of public notices and temporary diversion signing (where agreed) are in addition to the above costs which are not subject to VAT. An invoice for the full cost will be raised on completion.

Roadworks

Information on roads closed as a result of roadworks are currently published in the Scottish Road Works Register.

Where a road closure is planned but does not form part of road works then this information is not included in the Scottish Road Works Register.
